Africa in development

Many of Fair Trade Original’s spicy and exotic delicacies originate from Africa. The production of these flavourings offers the makers employment in countries in which jobs are scarce.

The stringent hygiene requirements imposed on foods for the European market make their production anything but simple. For this reason we offer intensive guidance in hygiene issues to African manufacturers – guidance which reinforces the producers’ operations and, with their new knowledge, gives them the self-sufficiency required to enter the international markets.

In choosing African handmade gifts you also make a contribution to development, since this increases the prosperity of the manufacturers, villages and, on occasion, even whole regions – and, perhaps of even more importance, the manufacturers, their employees and their families become more independent.
